PSF 2021 Talk: Artificial Intelligence & Ethics - Steven S.Gouveia

The speaker, Steven S.Goveia (who has a PhD in Neurophilosophy from the University of Minho, Portugal) aims to convince the audience  with his talk that Artificial Intelligence raises many ethical inquiries that are not only relevant in theory, but also in practice. Furthermore, he will argue that ethical expertise and moral philosophy are required in every discussion that precedes the development and use of this kind of technology . Two main methods are to be employed in this regard. The first method will analyse the application of specific tools of Artificial Intelligence (machine and deep learning) to medicine and raises any possible positive and negative arguments on 'AI Medicine'. The second method will examine the technology associated with A.I. sex robots and determine whether  such technology ought be banned or used from a moral viewpoint. Through the examination of these two AI technologies, the speaker hopes that the audience will appreciate how relevant the subject of ethics remains and why it is important to have this debate before the use of AI technology becomes further widespread in other areas.
