Join Gail Debono for an enlightening discussion of Sigmund Freud Civilisation and its Discontents. Three separate sessions, to be hosted at the Valletta Voluntary Centre, will explore Freud’s thoughts on the nature of civilization, society and the human psyche. The central theme of the book revolves around the inherent tension between the individual's instinctual drives and the constraints imposed by society for the sake of maintaining order and civilization. Published in 1930, this classic publication remains influential in the fields of psychology, sociology, and philosophy, sparking ongoing discussions about the nature of civilization and the human condition.

About the Speaker
Gail Debono is a Forensic Psychologist in corrections and private practice. She is also a Humanist celebrant under the auspices of Humanist Malta. She is President of the Chamber of Psychologists and sits on the committees of the boards of the EMDR Association of Malta and Humanists Malta. Her research interests lie in the understanding of role of deep-seated trauma in the development of criminal behaviour, and its implications for treatment in desistance from crime.
