About the Talk
In this talk, Guillaume Collett will discuss the band Radiohead in terms of their attempt, in and through their musical constructions, to resist the culture industry and social factory of which they are nonetheless a part. What will be highlighted is the tension that exists within Radiohead’s music between communication, commodification, and standardisation, on the one hand, and sensation, disruption, and singularity, on the other. Detailed analysis of their music will be provided along with philosophically-informed interpretations of their creative objectives, techniques and results.
About the Speaker
Guillaume Collett researches in the field of social and political thought, particularly the works of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. He has published two books on Deleuze (on psychoanalysis and on transdisciplinarity), and a third on neoliberalism and revolution.
